Emma Seaman – Biography
I have been writing short stories, articles and Children’s stories for five years and have been shortlisted for several awards & prizes and recently won the top award at the 2009 Wells Literary Festival. I have been published in magazines and six anthologies (see ‘Books’ page for details). My novel, ‘Lookeylikey’, is currently being edited for potential publication as part of the inspiring ‘Apprenticeships in Fiction’ scheme, subsidised by The Arts Council. The novel is a 'Modern Gothic' thriller, exploring the world of celebrity lookalikes…

I live with my husband and young children in Devon, and am frequently inspired and uplifted by the beauty and wildness of the countryside around me. I love, in no particular order: children; cats; orange Smarties; fondant fancies; bacon butties; walking on the seashore with the breeze in my hair; listening to birdsong in Bradley Woods; Quaker silence; Ella Fitzgerald; Terry Gilliam films; beautiful shoes; velvet jeans; black mascara; French cigarettes, malt whisky, strong dark coffee; tightly laced corsets; violets, roses and lilies.
I’m a classic ‘I’ll even read the back of the cereal packet if there’s nothing else to hand’ kind of person. I love reading non-fiction to discover fresh areas of knowledge, and adore researching story ideas – I recently read four books about the development of perfume, simply to write a 2,000 word short story… I’m shockingly lowbrow, ‘comfort reading’ old favourites time after time, as well as trying new authors, but a few bookshelf permanents are: ‘Sir’ Terry Pratchett, Haruki Murakami, Dorothy Parker, Minette Walters, Joanne Harris, Stephen King (the more recent stuff), Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen, Marian Keyes, Rupert Brooke, E.F. Benson.
