Emma’s Thoughts

Leaving it too late…

It really pays to be organised…

I usually marshal my writing in a business-like fashion, keeping lists of possible submissions and dates to accomplish them by, and then filling out a log of each piece of work as it is sent out. However, this month, the system has broken down. Too busy, too distracted, too immersed in other pieces of work – my life has intervened in my fiction with a vengeance.  John Lennon said: ‘Life is what happens while you’re making other plans’, which sums up my progress in publishing very well, as well as raising the interesting ‘what if’  about the plans Lennon felt had been sidelined in his (very successful) life.

Anyway, I’ve missed two unusual submissions that, when I noted them down a few months ago, I really meant to get my teeth into. With closing dates just a week away, it’s probably too late for anyone else unless you already have something  written that suits – but if so, the very best of good luck to you!

Welcome to my world!

Firstly,  a big thankyou to the very talented Emma Rudling who has created this site for me…

Now I’m up and running (well, ambling, at least) I’ll be updating this blog regularly with details of competitions and submissions info relevant to new writers, as well as ideas and suggestions for writing exercises. I’ll also be commenting on news from the publishing frontline and welcoming comments from readers and other writers.

Please feel free to contact me with suggestions, and I hope you enjoy the writing journey!
